“What was that about?” asked Pam, bewilderment showing on her face.

Rick drew a long breath. “History,” he said at last. “Family history.”

“Who was that guy and what’s with all that crap he was saying about you?”

“That was my brother,” replied Rick, feeling the weight of his admission.

Pam was visibly shaken by the revelation. Though she and Rick had been dating for nearly three months, Rick had made no mention of a brother.
