With a last glance at Hi Shri, Bali took off his jacket and put on the robe. He followed Shaae’s Servant across the meadow to the base of one of the largest of the surviving viicic trees. Among its roots lay the entrance to a subterranean complex.

Shaae’s Servant led him inside and along the single corridor to where it ended at a closed door. An engraved metal plate on the door was illuminated by lanterns set on either side.

The engraving was of a nesting bird, not an image Bali was familiar with. He was impressed with the high level of craftsmanship invested in its creation.

Bali’s guide knocked on the metal plate three times. The door was opened by an Initiate, who bowed as they entered. The Initiate left the chamber, closing the door on his way out.
