Chapter Three

 Quino and Tarj refused to wait for Phyr.

“I want time to survey this Sacrifice Meadow. I want time to prepare myself. I don’t want to arrive at sunset and be chosen to face the first Hooark,” Quino told Bali when he asked her to wait for Phyr to awake from his eeika-induced slumber.

“Her plan seems sensible to me,” Tarj added. “I see no reason to wait.”

So Bali and his friends set off much later than Quino and Tarj. They enjoyed an early midday meal after Phyr had recovered from his overindulgence. Phyr was friendly enough as they walked through the tunnel that would take them to Sacrifice Meadow, but there were pauses between his questions and stories.
