Chapter Two

Bali Sen forced himself to heft the travel pack containing spare clothes, food, and eating utensils. He picked up his shriek stick. The stick, a wooden staff as tall as he was, was notched at one end and could be fitted with a metal blade.

 He tried not to worry. Bali had studied all the strategy he could find for his upcoming ordeal. If he wasn’t ready now, he never would be.

Until he survived the Challenge, it was pointless to worry.
