Series Description:

Escaping the Hunt is set amid a background of ongoing interspecies conflict.

Bali Sen is a Rataan, a small, rodent-like mammal living in a theocracy. For years, the Rataan have been at war with the Hooark, an avian race of hunters whose favored prey is Rataan. The war culminated in the Great Disasters: the flooding of an entire Rataan community and fires that consumed large numbers of Hooark nests and eggs and took the lives of adult Hooark.

Peace has recently been brokered between the two cultures, and the priesthoods of the deities worshipped by the Rataan and Hooark have been charged with maintaining and enforcing it. Bali has been chosen to become one of the enforcers, called Peacekeepers. To be accepted for this post, he must face a Hooark in single combat.

This is only the first of many hurdles Bali will face as he learns what is involved in serving as a Peacekeeper. Overcoming these hurdles will lead him to new friends, a mystery to solve, and a crisis of faith.
