Strength beginning to wane, Vanima walked over to Elwin’s body, picked him up, kissed where his forehead was under the cloth, and faced the four elves.
“Before I go, I will sing you a song. Elwin and I loved to sing together, so I will be ending it with one.”
Clutching Elwin close to her chest, she sang,
“From a time
Beyond my faintest dream
There’s a presence in my mind
When you love that much
You’re not afraid to say
There’s a home where all our stories will end
The end
With him and me.”
Her voice bounced off the hardened earthen spikes, amplifying it. Emboldened by the moment, she continued,
“Feels like my world is over
