When the dust had settled, and the survivors began gathering their fallen, Vanima guided her team to where the generals met. Saida carried Ievis in her arms. Penelo held Elwin’s body close to her chest. His fur was wet with new tears. Everyone who noticed stopped what they were doing to salute their fallen commander.

Generals Darn, Aienik, Flaryn, and Darunia stood together, lost in conversation when Vanima arrived. Noticing first, Darn raised his hand to silence the others. His expression hardened when he noticed Elwin.
