Tears rolling down her cheeks. Fariane faced off against the three as Penelo and Asena held back the last one. Not far away, hundreds fought for their lives just like her. Just like he did. Just like she should be doing. Hand laced with his, her eyes begged him not to go. Ievis reached out with a trembling hand and caressed her cheek. His thumb brushed away a tear.
Blood dribbling out of his mouth, Ievis coughed and said, “You don’t need to cry on my account.”
Squeezing his hand, she said, “You fool. We were supposed to grow old and raise a family together.”
“War has a cost, and I’ll be damned if I let you go before me.”
Howl!
Fariane cried out, “Saida, I need you now or we all join him.”
