Alexandra stepped from the bus and looked around her, people milled about, relaxing under the windows and rushing past on skateboards. A tall boy with wild hair and eyes to match flew past her, catcalling as he went. She stepped back and bumped into a large man who grunted at her intrusion.
He grunted again and she stepped forward and onto the sidewalk. Alex looked up at the towering brick building that would be her work, home, and play for the next four years. She had no idea what she was getting herself into when she moved across the country and into the deep south to study Jazz. You have to learn from the best she’d told her Nan. She looked around at all of the students and shook her head. “I’m in so over my head.”...
