He smiles and pulls his key from his jacket pocket. The smell of gasoline and fallen leaves fills his nose and makes him smile wider. He closes the gas tank as another car pulls into the station and parks behind his truck. He recognizes it and sighs inwardly. Monica.
She slides out of the SUV’s driver seat and her step falters when she sees him. WIth a forced smile in her direction she turns her back on him and fumbles with her gas cap. Monica isn’t one for nerves normally and he frowns and relocks his truck.
“Mornin’ Monica.” he greets when he gets closer. Her honeysuckle perfume invades his nose and warms his heart.
“Rodney.” she says with a nod.
“How’ve you been?”
