“Come on Landon! We’re almost there!” My sister calls from up the hill. She has ahead start on me and now my chest aches as I try to drag deep breaths into my lungs.
“Amaranda, can’t you slow down?”
“Never!” She giggles before disappearing from view over the hilltop. I swipe the back of my hand across my forehead before jogging up the rest of the way. When I reach the top the air fled from my lungs, and it had nothing to do with my recent climb.
“Stay where you are boy, or your lovely sister here gets clipped.”
A large man has Amaranda in his grasp, one hand over her mouth as she struggles against his other digging into her back.
“What do you want?”
