Element- The most favorable environment, such as water is the element of fish.

I was eating a warm bagel with cream cheese when I heard the power lines start to blow. That’s when my parents went to get information and supplies and left us home alone. They never came back.

I hate them for that. Why did they leave? I want them to come back and explain what they were thinking. I want them to say they’re sorry for leaving us.

We burn in nuclear radiation. An ancient curse says our town will burn three times for offenses to the Shaman. It burned in 1914, and again in 1936. The final burn is invisible, the result of unforeseen nuclear safety failures. They said it couldn’t happen, but...
