Although I withdrew from classes for the winter quarter, I remained under house arrest at Reverend Keep’s home, left in limbo, unsure of what my future held. Should I stay and try to complete my education or was it time to go back to my aunties?  

         The house was too quiet after my housemates’ parents took them out of school. One evening when I could stand the silence no longer, the meadow called to me. As I came down the front stairs, Reverend Keep stepped out from the sitting room. “Might I have a word with you, Edmonia?” he asked.
