i've rubbed off
i've left my mark
on someone else
and lost something in the process

we are always doing that -
influencing others and being
influenced
rubbing off and collecting
bits of everyone else
whoe have rubbed some part of
their soul away on ours

but eventually we lose
more than we gain
and slowly we become
memories belonging to someone
other than ourselves

and i realize
i have never been my own
