i don't feel
anything
and i don't know
if there's nothing there
to feel
or if i'm afraid or
there's still an open wound
and it hurts

my heart's in shreds
and it's safer
easier
to hide beneath
layers of soothing apathy
until i'm numb
and i wonder why
i don't feel
