"Garrett!" Reiser rode over everyone on the net, her volume and tone panicky.

Garrett snapped his attention in her direction. She hung behind them several feet, her rifle up to her shoulder and sending three-round bursts down the way they'd come. Three-round bursts. Into shoving, slouching zombies. Why didn't she use--

"XPD!" Garrett called. "We need an XPD down here!"

"We only got two--"

"ASAP!"

The zombies fell over like clay pidgeons, either from head shots, from getting cut in half by the high-velocity rounds, or from falling over into the pit. But more zombies trampled over those that fell, their dead eyes intent on the live flesh before them. The monsters had approached to within ten feet when Reiser's M4 went empty....
