Reaching the next floor, Garrett and Nard made the hard turn down the corridor housing the infirmary. They weren't alone. Guards in body armor, helmets, and carrying M27 assault rifles raced up the corridor, calling over commo for situation reports. Others, including uniformed doctors and nurses, sped or stumbled the other direction. Yelling came from down the hall, and a crashing sound like an upended cart.

Two guards reached the infirmary door before Garrett. One rushed in. The second braced at the threshold, his rifle to his shoulder.
