Vanity rumbles like

a hunger in the gut

the timeless shaper

of humility never

seemed to arrive

on time

too early

made a mind

ensconced in fear

too late

a world cloaked

in cruelty

whatever it’s arrival

it takes a long time

to build a life

and only a split second

to tear it down

life is full of gamble

nothing wagered

nothing earned

but truth and

denial make poor

bedfellows

making even simple

words of wisdom

pervert into

narcissistic self-aggrandizing

blowing up into

reckless abandonment

shielded by self importance

and glorious vanity.
