store looked up,

then back about their business

as the cashier handed me back

one dollar and thirty five cents.

 

When I walked outside, a small

group of people had gathered

around the bloody and motionless man,

the horse was nowhere to be seen

 

I suddenly felt as though

I had completely lost

my fucking mind;

 

had I been the only one

who saw it?

who could possibly stand to

live in a world where such

things were unremarkable?

 

An ambulance pulled up to the

scene as I climbed into my car

and shakily lit a cigarette

as the ugly truth began to

dawn on me

 

everyone HAD seen what happened,

but nob...
