Eyes like

fire and velvet

looking out at empty rooms

the beggar concealing his knife

a smear on the windshield

they see angels in some places,

here we watch as they gasp

cold neon lights in air as still as smoke

no mirrors, no one wants them anymore

for we do not hunger but we still cry

blinking out an S.O.S. in braille

with madhouses and whorehouses

all closed down

burnt out, outbid by

the competition

give them an audience, they'll

do it for free

and they do.

nothing gets built

and why should it

when you can

watch watch watch

they'll handle
