Jimmy Hoyer had braced himself on the floor between his seat and the back rest of the seat in front of him in anticipation of what was to come. He was almost at eye level with the strange man on the floor, who was still holding tightly onto Miss Winslow’s body, his mouth still against her neck, his face covered in her blood. In the moments that followed, as the bus catapulted over the low barrier, and became momentarily airborne, Jimmy locked eyes with the stranger. They were emotionless, deeply sunken into his skull, and seemed as dark as the night and as fierce as the eyes of a wild beast.
