"Before I even address the absurdity of your accusations let me just place a few facts before you," John said.
"First, I have an alibi for the time that Caroline was killed. I was overseas, but at a conference in Brussels. I have several colleagues who can confirm this. Secondly, I spent the entire night Amanda was killed in the company of a senior member of the judiciary. Thirdly, though perhaps I should have ordered these points chronologically, I was at home with my mother on the evening of Cade's accident.
"And on that latter point: we have as yet no evidence, nor do I even have any belief nor reason to believe, that Cade's accident was anything other than an unfortunate traffic mishap," John said.
