The next day was cooler and overcast, and as the town seemed to sleep in the daytime Jayne went again to Delphi. Its character was altered by the duller weather. Now it seemed more broken and more rubble-strewn. But the golden broom still added colour as she wended her way up the mountainside.

Most of the other tourists visiting the site seemed to be German. Jayne spoke French and managed a little Italian but German was beyond her scope. This allowed her more peace, since any conversation was rapidly curtailed by language differences. She knew from past travel experiences that a lone voyager often has company thrust upon them, well-meaning but misguided; fortunately that was less likely here.

Now she had arrived at the top she wasn't really sure what to do, and if there had even been any point comin...
