Sometimes change happens gradually, so gradually in fact that we fail to notice its subtleties until we face an event that we find ourselves reacting to differently than we thought we would. Other times, change hits us like a sledgehammer and creates a mirage effect so we still identify with who we were before while at the same time trying to accept and get to know the person we are now.
