I walk inside the station. I am so drunk from the night before that I fall at the entrance as I push the door open, somehow I manage not to lose my sun glasses or leave my hat behind. I stand up again and light a cigarette as I stumble through the room. As I try to picture a straight line in my mind and follow it I feel something grabbing me by my long coat. I look back and see Zack on his desk grabbing my jacket and almost in a whisper he tells me:

            ‘What are you doing? The new guy is here!’

            But his warning comes too late. We both hear a loud shout coming from the chief room:

            ‘Dan Williams! Come here.’
