Melody didn't like this place. It wasn't pretty. Her home had been pink with white trim, with a white lace bedspread and all her clothes. Since the bad people came and took her away from Daddy Martin, she'd been in a concrete cell with a hard bed. They'd taken away all her pretty clothes and put her in a dumpy T-shirt and blue jeans. She felt ... common.

The security guard escorted her from her holding cell into an office filled with cubicles. Others like her were being led by other guards through the area, beautiful men and women brought low by mean people. They seemed fragile compared to the crude environment they were in, angels pulled down from heaven. The clumsy people that waddled around them made the beautiful people seem that much more amazing.
