"If I had to guess, I'd say it's some sort of cult-based human trafficking activity, mixed with social engineering. They could have learned enough details about you and your field to pique your interest. If the niño had already been born, they could have distracted you and snatched him out of the back seat." Carlotta shook her head, her lips pressed into a tight line. "I don't like it one bit, because it can't be coincidence that they targeted you. I'm guessing you didn't see plates or have enough to give a sketch artist?"

"A sketch artist might be able to work with what I remember." Evie frowned. "Though now that I'm thinking about their faces, it's Gandalf, Vin Diesel, and Steve Buscemi."
