Thomas followed the neighbor up the stairs, stopping out of sight of his door while the other man continued on.

"Brothers, I was wondering if you might be able to spare a few pennies for a man such as myself. I haven't had a good meal in days and would really appreciate the kindness."

Pulling his hat down low over his eyes, Thomas walked up to the four men. He was nearly to them before anyone recognized him. As the well-dressed man started to say something, Thomas shoved his neighbor hard into the closest bravo. The force took both men down.

Thomas leapt over their flailing bodies and moved behind the gentleman. He used one hand to grab the corpulent man by the hair, the other to hold a knife under the pig's jowly throat. The hired thug hesitated, unsure what to do. Thom...
