Ten silent minutes later, they arrived at their destination. Tenuk took the lead when they got to the building, stepping up to knock on the front door. A few moments later the door opened and the inspector looked down to see a wizened gnome looking suspiciously up at the drakin. Behind the gnome, Tenuk saw a dozen or so of the gnome's progeny, with his wife unabashedly nursing the latest addition as she stood watching from the hallway. The sulfurous smell of cabbage rolled out the door.

The gnome didn't say a thing, so Tenuk stated, "We're here for Lady Elizabeth."

"I think you've got the wrong end of town if you're looking for a noblewoman, Constable," the gnome said with a sly grin on his face.
