the revealing of meaning

vindictive became those spoken aloud lies,

vicious and cunning.

cutting deeper away

the innocence once belonging.

beneath the surface of the iris

there is dryland that awaits,

if she doesn't tire before reaching the shore.

cannot remember feeling such embarassment.

we cannot control the storms, do not dictate the winds,

but we can start the fire or bring the rains

impervious to how much power we possess

as we step upon the fingers and toes

of the others before us

fight or die from cradle to the grave

sink or swim, swish or hit the rim

skill or chance or luck
