Underneath this veil lies a lifetime of silence,
covered by man-made fabric
with uneven threads in every stitch.
The more I try to gasp for air,
the more it smothers and suffocates,
rendering me helpless in
“a time of equal opportunity.”
I am branded by this black cloth
that will hide my secrets forever,
secrets I have buried under the sea
with the casualties of tradition.
But somehow, someway,
this will all be over soon
one day, all black and white
will fade from existence.
While blinding shades of gray
hatred and fear continue to consume the world,
Yet, I will stand the test of time
and take my life into my own hands.
