Oh, how I wish I knew you sooner

Every moment spent with you is pure bliss

I thought happiness like this

Was only true in fairy tales

Surely no mere mortal

Can experience such miraculous ecstasy

My only sadness

And it is most sad, indeed

Is that it took so long

For us to find one another

If we only knew each other sooner

Could we have saved each other

From years of disappointment?

So many tears we could have saved

So many lonely nights

Would be happy memories instead

I cling to that old saying --

“Things happen for a reason”

But it’s hard to justify
