easing its way
along dusty blinds.
Scowling, she pulls
the strings more tightly
than she thought she must have
the first time.
As life tends to flow,
her attempt fails;
strings flutter,
blinds dance in disarray.
Sun’s glow spills,
floods the room,
and she spins round,
palm-covered eyes, afraid.
Illumination drowns
her dark crafted prison,
knees drop below
the rising surface.
Warm waves crash
across chilled arms;
scorned demons forced
to walk the plank.
Weakened from the dark,
anchor tethered to her back,
she opens...
