Shadows are surprisingly full

of colors, remarkable;

tawny velvet rabbits

blend behind the reeds,

and golden ants, so small,

reflect the sun beneath

protection in the soil,

similar in shade to

the little brown bat

awaiting dusk, the lightest

of shadow shades.

Rich and sable,

shadows are the accent

of the natural world;

in between the yin to the yang,

the black to the white,

always concealing

clandestine secrets,

and treasures mislaid.

The unfound wishing

to stay small

in a vast bright world.
