They flutter their violet greetings,

and smack my lips in lemony kisses.


Self-conscious, I peer

behind my shoulder,

eyes shifting side to side, in case

you’ve really come this time.


It’s okay when I don’t see you,

because you tickle my back

with your long fingernails,

circle-circle-scratch, circle-circle…


The breeze picks up the petals now,

little lions yawn in lazy summer.
