“Between you and me”.  Which sounds better in French; more exotic, more mysterious, more secretive. In French it sounds as if it were an antique rule governing the guardianship of words shared between friends and not the hallmark of a conversation.

I walked back down the hallway toward the kitchen. Pumpkin was back on the couch watching television. “Hey Kid, so how’s your girlfriend?”  He smirked and made some kissing sounds then broke out into his laugh, nodding his head in approval.
