The front door slammed. That would be Käthe then. Nothing changed. It was odd, though, that Renate wasn’t awake yet. Yes, Käthe and Hans had wanted to set off early, a little before her getting up time but she wasn’t the sort of little girl to lie in bed late. And it was late now.
