“What’s his problem?” asked Lance.

            “Who knows?” Faith answered. She laughed and flipped her hair.

“You know,” said Lance, “he was always a grumpy little guy, even in elementary school. I don’t think I ever remember seeing him crack a smile.”

The mention of Alex’s smile brought memories of their first meeting rushed into Faith’s mind. Glancing away from Lance, Faith couldn’t help but vividly recall the first time she had laid eyes upon Alex and the first time she had seen him smile.
