Fenn did not care in the least if he plunged to his death in the midst of those creatures.  He did not care about his own safety any longer.  He looked up and he gazed straight ahead, and he saw that the log bridge he was on stretched into a bank of clouds.

            Something cracked beneath him.  He didn’t move.  The wind buffeted him.  He looked down and saw that the log was cracking beneath his feet.  He didn’t scream.  He simply closed his watering eyes and waited for death to come. 

The log broke.

            And Fenn fell.
