In the distance, a quarter kilometer away, amidst the grey, petrified stone pines, a group of dragons had gathered around a human boy. The boy was on the ground, obviously injured, crawling through the rubble.
Zaal lurched across the classroom, threw open the door, and pounded outside to see just what in the name of the Earthmaker had happened.
“I’m going after the lad.” Zaal was pacing nervously across the cave, his huge, clawed feet padding noisily on the stone floor. The older dragon snorted every few moments, his giant nostrils flaring.
