AN UNEXPECTED TURN OF FORTUNE

By the time both boy and dragon had taken their positions at opposite ends of the village, the golden dusk had settled over the river to the west.  Twilight had cooled the land and summoned fragrant breezes off the Lunar Ocean to the east.  Many of the town’s citizens were outside, sharing jugs of Gluck and visiting with each other around the meager harvest carts.  Fireflies danced in the waning light as Fenn appeared around the corner of a hay wagon.

         “I understand you good folks have a dragon attack comin’ your way?” he asked the first adult male in his path.
