Neeks and the Toxes by Carrie Meyer
Series Info | Table of Contents

The Neeks and the Toxes each lived in their boxes with great and wonderful pride.
The Neeks in the green ones, the Toxes in red, with a fence on each side.
Each Neek and Tox took care of their box as if it were a grand castle in France.
But, do you think these neighbors would talk? To each other! No, no, not a chance!
The Neeks hated red, the Toxes green. Not a red Neek or green Tox box could be seen.
What was heard though if you walked down the street, what noise was made when
a Neek and Tox meet!
They yell at each other in a loud shouting voice!
“Green is the best, theirs no other choice!”
“No, no it's red you silly old Neek! Why don't you go and seek a new color for your ugly box!”
“You don't know color you witless Tox!
They would go back and forth and then one would say “I'm not listening to you, be gone, go away!”
And this would happen every day!
Their city was in an uproar! But what were all these arguments for?
To prove what color was the best.
Was green or red better than the rest?
There was no one who could really decide.
But all stood by their colors with pride.
They fought and argued all day long.
They wouldn't dance, play or sing a song.
Fighting is the only thing they knew
And they didn't know what to do
Until a stranger came one day
And took their problems all away.
He told them about a special thing
and it even had special songs to sing
Its called Christmas, only one day a year
to celebrate and have good cheer
Lots of presents and decorations can be seen
and they use both colors red and green.
It's a peaceful celebration, among all people in every nation.
If they can do it why cant you? Its not a hard thing to do.
Why do you always fight? Don t you know that that's not right?
Always yelling at each other, every mom, dad sister and brother.
What caused this problem anyway?
And they didn't know just what to say.
It just had always been that way.
They realized it was silly to fight
There really was no point, right?
So they took each other by the hand and this happened all across the land
Because now they understand
No matter what color, red or green, or whatever color can be seen
It doesn't really matter who or what they've been
Its really not important, you have to look within.
