'Prison Tails' (Sic) : Chapter 37  Shades of Jade

She stared at the flakes of milky colored paint on the ceiling and thought about her secret admirer from the fifth grade. Why the little bitch friend that helped find out who he was had to treat him like such shit suddenly pissed her off. He had been cute too, in a weird sort of way. Chelsea laughed realizing she was dreaming about an eleven year old. He was probably a Podiatrist now with three kids and a mortgage. Or may e he'd grown into a swan and was swinging a baby elephant trunk. She smiled. A big dicked swan.

"Quit rockin' back and forth, god damn it," Thelma yelled out from the bunk below, kicking at the mattress above, "You're keeping me up with them springs."

Chelsea's smile faded and she rolled to her side, eliciting more noise from the mattress as she closed her eyes. She began to scratch at the green wool blanket irritating her thigh and Thelma kicked at the bottom of the bunk again, "What'd I tell you?"

"Keep it up," Chelsea whispered, "and I'll be up the rest of the night. And I've got nothing to do but wait and toss until the breakfast shift."

Thelma kicked again for additional measure. "You realize if you had a rug you'd be just as bad as having a Muslim cellmate?"

She ignored Thelma and settled back into the dazed dream. She remembered him being funny for a forth grader. But then she remembered her friend needlessly tearing him down. Telling him he'd never be good enough for a girl like her. And Chelsea hadnt said a word one way or the other. She just let the bitch speak. They were cool and he apparently wasn't.

Her eyes opened in a shock of realization. Had her bitch friend been jealous? Maybe she had just wanted a secret admirer of her own, and if she couldnt have one... Chelsea scoffed at the mind fuck.

"I just let her dismiss him." Chelsea smirked and hopped down from the top bunk.

"What did I fucking, say," Thelma said, her eyes slowly rolling open and training on Chelsea and her knelt postion over her in the dark.

Chelsea eased in close, "Perhaps what you should have said what was really on your mind."

As Thelma's sucked air to repond, her face contorted as Chelsea's hand shot out, grabbing a handful of hair. Before Thelma could react in the murk of the darkness, Chelsea slammed her head into the cinder block wall behind her and watched her body go limp.

---

Chelsea stepped to the bars as they slid open and finished with her top blouse button.

"You ready, breakfast shift," the guard asked as his flash light partially illuminated her and the cell.

"Ready as I'll ever be." she said, adjusting her collar.

"I thought you had the top bunk," he said, gesturing his head and light into the cell at an unconcious Thelma.

Chelsea looked into the cell. "We switched. She'd never admit it, but it turns out she's admired it all this time."
