Open letter to all campers and staff at Camp Fairmarsh from Director Ace, August 7, 2003

(Staff, please read this letter aloud when all of your campers are assembled, and then post it in a prominent location within your units.)

It is with deep sadness that I announce that the annual end-of-camp canoe races with Camp Broadview have been cancelled for this year. Unfortunately, the algae growth on the lake is too thick, and the lifeguards (especially since Quicksilver’s early departure) are concerned about their ability to protect our rowers adequately.

I know that the end-of-camp races have been an important part of Camp Fairmarsh’s long and illustrious history. But safety must trump tradition in this instance.
