Letter from Alexis Blackwell to her family,  August 5, 2003

Dear Dad, Mom, Jamie, Curtis, and Tim,

Can you believe that I’ve got only a few more days of camp? It’s hard for me to believe too! The past seven and a half weeks have flown by. I’m not saying that I’m not going to revel in being home. But I guess I’ve proved that even a sickly asthmatic girl can go to camp and survive.

I’m already making a list of what I want to do when I get home, though. The top of the list is to take a shower until the hot water runs out.Then I want to turn the air conditioning up high, and burrow under the blankets in my room and sleep on a real mattress. And then, for dinner, pizza. With ham, pineapple, and green peppers. And I don’t want to sh...
