An excerpt from Jessika Yamaguchi’s diary, July 25, 2003

Brooke didn’t come back to the cabin last night. This morning, Thunder came in and asked us if any of Brooke’s stuff wasn’t in, under, or around her bed. After we pointed out all of Brooke’s stuff, we asked her what was wrong, and she told us that Brooke got thrown from her horse yesterday, and they were just waiting to hear back from her parents (who are in Europe) before determining how they can send her home.

Ding dong, the witch is dead! I mean, not legitimately dead, but she’s leaving. My life could not get any better right now …

Only now I feel really guilty about saying that, because I’ve been wishing, every time I see a shooting star, that Brooke would go away. And I may h...
