Alla Breve, the finale of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto number 3. In college it was unequivocally her favorite piece of music. Now, serving as the ringtone on her mobile, it was usually the sound of Sugihara checking her whereabouts, or of Raizen calling to offer more dog’s work. Lately however, she had a new caller. As she reached into her jacket to retrieve the device, annoyance appeared on Sugihara’s paper-pale face.
