"I heard he was already up and about. Is that true?"

"Apparently. That's why we're heading over, to make sure he doesn't overdo it trying to get back to work." He looked away for a moment with a fist to his mouth, as though remembering something remarkable. "You want to hear some shit?"

She did. She wanted to hear some shit.

"Mason tells me Chris is likely to make Lieutenant because of the steroid he found."

She groaned. "AJ, we shouldn't discuss details of the case here in the open." She looked around. "Here, come with me."

They found an empty clerk's office and closed the smoked-glass sliding door behind them.
