Germanus was used to battle, on and off the field. But now he faced hostility like he had rarely if ever encountered before.  Sevira sat to the General-Archbishop’s right, while Aetius, Severianus and Aureliana were seated at the other end of the negotiating table. Germanus’s proposal for a grand alliance had not been well received by anyone other than the ex Vortigern (though Sevira would not accept that she was no longer the over-ruler of Britannia). Germanus had surprised himself at how much in sympathy he had been with his ex-lover’s proposals when they had been baring heart and soul to each other a few hours earlier in camera.
