‘Who is it?’
Germanus grunted as he put the tablet down on his bed and walked over to the door.
‘Hello?’
He could hear breathing and the creaking of floorboards.
Germanus sighed as he went to the door, one hand on his gladius. With the other he gripped the latch, ready to open it suddenly as necessary.
‘Who are you?’
‘Someone who wishes to speak with you privately. May I come in?’
‘First tell me who you are and what your business is, and then I will consider letting you in’. Germanus grimaced. ‘But be quick about it! I have much to do!’
‘Thank you. I am grateful to you, my Lord’.
